Summary0002825: Possibility of using libpencil on other platforms
DescriptionCurrently, libpencil depends on librufl, which is specific to RISC OS. It would be nice to be able to use libpencil to write (and potentially read) Draw files on non-RISC OS platforms, but removing the dependency on librufl would require changing the public API to remove references to librufl types and to directly provide the information that librufl would normally get from the native font manager.

Pencil's implementation relies on rufl when generating drawfiles, so this is not as simple as "just" hiding the types from the public API (which should be a fairly trivial change as the only things exposed are the error code and rufl_style enum). If no text support is required on other platforms, however, it would be reasonable to disable it at build time; if text support is needed though, then pencil would need much the same primitives as exposed by rufl, anyway -- perhaps the less complicated answer would be to implement a minimal version of rufl for the target platform (i.e. using the rufl API as the abstraction layer).
