Summary0002144: Select-drag does the wrong thing
DescriptionOn certain web pages e.g. The Register articles holding down Select in white space between lines of text fails to move the page but causes a large amount of text to be selected.
Steps To ReproduceGo to sample problem page (see below).
In the main article click Select in between two paragraphs, hold and drag up or down.
In fact simply holding down Select will have the same effect.
Large areas of text including stuff down the right-hand side of the page, are highlighted as selected. Ctrl-Z clears the selection.
Additional InformationDragging in white space should move the page.
Selecting text should only select the text dragged over.
TagsNo tags attached.
Fixed in CI build #
Reported in CI build #1959

Another example page, using Dev CI 1975, https://www.riscosopen.org/content/

NetSurf 3.1 is OK.

HTML text selection is dodgy. Won't change until layout is rewritten.

This now seems to be OK on RO 5.23. I no longer have the possibility to check on RO 6. Althgough the hand pointer appears it is not possible to drag the page up or down but this may be a RISC OS 5 problem. Selecting text starting inside a paragraph is fine.

The issue does appear to be substantially fixed.

I also noticed a failure to vertically drag with the hand pointer within https://www.theregister.co.uk stories, though does work within white space well to the right, but all seems good on other sites.

NetSurf #4214 on OS5.23 13-Sep-17, and OS4.02 and OS4.39 VRPC Windows 10.

Has been fixed (or substantially fixed) somewhere along the way.
